CONTINUUS Pharmaceuticals is a spin-out company from a multi-year collaboration between MIT and Novartis. We specialize in end-to-end Integrated Continuous Manufacturing (ICM), with the application of novel process technologies that enable the rapid production of pharmaceuticals at significantly reduced costs and better quality assurance. With ICM, we will improve affordability and accessibility of pharmaceuticals on a global scale.

About CONTINUUS

CONTINUUS is leveraging a novel continuous manufacturing platform called Integrated Continuous Manufacturing (ICM), which will transform and streamline the supply chain of pharmaceuticals, by delivering high quality lower cost drugs “on-demand.”  ICM was initially developed through an $85 M joint research project between Novartis and MIT.

With ICM, we will transform the pharmaceutical industry by converting fragmented batch processes to seamless ICM lines.

A New Paradigm

The Past:  Batch manufacturing is an outdated methodology that suffers from a series of “stop-and-start” steps in its production chain. This includes the isolation and transportation of chemical intermediates across different unit operations, often located in different facilities, where quality issues can occur. This entire process is very time- and cost-inefficient.

Batch processes are lengthy, and often fragmented and uncoordinated

The Future:  ICM represents the most advanced manufacturing platform for pharmaceuticals. Innovative unit operations enable the seamless integration of API and drug product manufacturing. Batch processes that require over a year can be shortened to just a few days. Fully automated production lines can be easily re-configured in a “plug-and-play” fashion to produce many different compounds.
